APA's PrescriptionCareSM Patient Loyalty Program Now Available to Pharmacies

PrescriptionCareSM service is now available to pharmacies served by APA Member companies.

October 12, 2000

The American Pharmacy AllianceSM announces a powerful new program for its community pharmacy members that will reduce prescription costs for cash customers. This patient loyalty program allows community pharmacies to compete with deep discounters while at the same time increasing their gross margins by utilizing manufacturer subsidies on key branded products.

The PrescriptionCareSM program allows pharmacists to offer their cash customers a pharmacy-sponsored alternative to margin-eroding cash discount programs. Pharmacists can now market their own third party program to patients and employers. There is no pharmacy enrollment fee for this plan, and patient enrollment is only $9.95 annually for family coverage.

APA and its pharmacy system vendors have worked hard to design a turn-key program that is easy for pharmacies to implement. The program utilizes the third party billing process already used by the pharmacies' dispensing systems. Patients can be easily enrolled 'on the fly' during the dispensing process and will be eligible for their discounted pricing immediately.

"It's in the best interest of our member companies to help community pharmacies stay healthy by delivering programs that reduce the pharmacist's cost of doing business and increase store revenue," said Karl Steele, president of APA. "The PrescriptionCareSM program addresses head-on one of the challenges confronted by community pharmacies every day."
