The American Pharmacy AllianceSM Delivers for Pharmacy First Network10/27/97October 27, 1997, Lexington, Kentucky - The American Pharmacy Alliance (APA) has successfully completed its preliminary testing in the delivery of its data and network services in support of the Pharmacy First Network, and the program began operation this month as scheduled. Earlier this year, The APA was selected by the Wholesale Alliance (WA) as their primary data services provider and technology partner to WA's Pharmacy First Network. APA member companies build and support the computer systems used in over 11,000 of the nation's independent and small chain pharmacies. APA's real time, "in-time" processing approach provides a substantial advantage to the Pharmacy First stores by presenting the pharmacist with preferred formulary decisions prior to the actual dispensing event rather than afterwards as is required by "on-line" prescription editing processes. That feature, as well as direct integration of other aspects of the program into the prescription processing software will strengthen the overall effectiveness of the Pharmacy First program. APA President, Karl Steele also notes that APA has agreed to work with other non-APA software vendors to provide the implementation and support services necessary to allow their pharmacy clients to participate in the Pharmacy First Network. As the developers of this break-through technology, APA and its member companies will provide expert assistance to other software vendors in order to ensure a rapid but effective nationwide rollout of the Pharmacy First program. The American Pharmacy Alliance, formed in 1996, is headquartered in Lexington, KY, and provides and manages access to beneficial products and services for independent and small chain pharmacies, their customers, and software vendors nationwide. APA member companies include BSI Business Systems, CRX Pharmacy Systems, Condor Corporation, Cost Effective Computer Systems, Digital Simplistics, Etreby Computer Company, Health Business Systems, Interactive Systems & Management, MedE America, North American PACS, PharmAssist, OmniSYS, Opus-Core Corporation, QS/1 Data Systems, Transaction Data Systems, and VIP Computer Systems.
